Google says there won’t be a charger for you!
According to a report from The Verge, Google’s arriving flagship smartphones, the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, will be shipped without a charger in the box. And that means Google is the latest manufacturer to follow Apple’s no charger campaign.
The Pixel 5a, which was launched yesterday, will be the last phone to include a charger. This means the Pixel 5a comes with a charger in the box.
According to The Verge, Google stated categorically that most people already have a USB-C charging brick, so there’s no longer a need to include one with its phones.
Though the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 pro coming later this year would have an all-new design with Google’s latest tensor chip for smartphones, taking away the charger would still be a thing to be talked about a lot, at least they’d be saved by Apple for taking this decision first.
The actual question here is, with big brands like Apple, Google, and Samsung taking this path of getting rid of charges, for whatever reasons, won’t small brands/companies be compelled to follow this route? And would this sit well with users who do not have an extra USB-C charger? On the brighter side, let’s look at these companies’ decisions, that perhaps not shipping millions of extra chargers with phones is good for the environment.
But in the meantime, you better get yourself a bunch of old chargers stashed somewhere because you’re going to need them.
